How to Harvest Basil

Basil is easy to grow and with proper harvesting techniques, it will continue to produce more leaves! Begin harvesting when the plant is approximately 4-6" tall, after about 4 weeks of growth. See our tips below on how to pick your basil for the best results.

How to Harvest Basil:

  • After about 4 weeks of growth, when the plants are 4-6+" tall, identify the top cluster of leaves of the plant.
  • Locate the main central stem (stalk) of the plant, and follow it down from the top set of leaves to the "node", or junction point where side shoots grow out laterally from the main central stalk.
  • Take a pair of scissors, and snip the main stem directly above the node. This will allow for the plant to grow 2 new side-shoots and develop into a lush, bushy plant for bigger harvests and a more stable and protected plant.
  • Go enjoy those homegrown harvests!
